  Communities in Schools of Douglas County (CISDC) is a 501 (c)(3) organization which builds partnerships that bring needed community resources into schools to help students successfully learn. 

CISDC programs are tailored to the needs of the schools and the students.  We provide services to students at a variety of levels, including whole-school initiatives, intensive short-term services to students, and sustained services for those needing ongoing support.  The local CISDC board is chaired by Dana Jones Wynn.

Mission:

The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Purpose:

To help kids stay in school and prepare for life.

Five Basics:

Every child needs and deserves:

  • A personal one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
  • A safe place to learn and grow
  • A marketable skill to use upon graduation
  • A chance to give back to peers and the community
  • A healthy start and a healthy future

Goals:

  • reduce the number of dropouts
  • improve school attendance
  • enhance personal, educational, and social development
  • improve self-esteem of students
  • improve job readiness skills
  • increase socially acceptable behavior in the classroom, at home, in the community and
  • coordinate timely and integrated delivery of service to youth and their families from and within the educational settings

Outcomes:

  • identify gaps in current services and cooperate to fill gaps
  • enhance staff sharing and organize joint training
  • conserve resources by avoiding unnecessary duplication of services
  • provide better service with interagency communication

  • After School Programs (Fee based and 21st Century Learning Center Grants)
